narrative: It was a bright sunny day with now cloud cover just a slight haze. Esc 5 lifted off into the air and made contact with our recon group and headed in. In
route to secondary targets we joined up with members of Esc 1 on an offensive patrol deep into enemy territory. Both our groups saluted to each other and signaled
no enemy contact.
Esc5 lead signaled engine trouble and started to head back to base. He waved us off to continue patrol. It must have been water in his lines because he soon
rejoined us with the problem corrected. We proceed to exit point and picked up our recon departing enemy territory and escorted them across our lines. Esc1 and
Esc5 resumed a barrage patral of the front. With negative contacts.
We returned to base and debriefed when Esc5 lead pointed out several contacts shinning in the afternoon soon just south of Ypres. He spotted them while in route
back to us and just made note of it for future reference. We took back to the air and again flew our assinged barrage patrol route with negative results. We did
spot some enemy planes setting on a field but just departed for home.

narrative: took off on patrol with McQ, Colt and Rogier. 5 minutes in I had engine trouble and had to head home. After minor repairs had been made I got back into
the air and headed for the likely spot I would find them on the Patrol route. I did indeed find them and 2 of Esc1 with them. We proceeded to patrol up the front and
had no sightings for much of the time.
Deep into the patrol, near a hun base McQ and Colt seemed to spot something low. They dove down and I spotted 2 low cons. No shooting took place when our
2 spads got within range so I assumed they were friendly recons. We proceeded out to the mud and our lines and then began heading south. I was about to give up
hope of seeing anything this patrol when east of me out over the mud I spotted 4 maybe 5 very distant cons co-alt with me, perhaps slightly lower.
I dove over to Fergie to signal my contact and then looked for the huns again. I could still see them now slightly northeast of us, but they soon vanished from view.
We headed back home and much to my surprise I was the only one who saw the cons. I wonder if I need my eyes checked for black spots on them hehe.
Second Patrol we covered the same ground and with no sightings at all we headed home. All were dissappointed with the lack of action on the day.

Claims: 7 targets
Narrative: Took off from aero all by my lonesome in my R8 and headed to rendezvous. Noticed a couple of blips ahead of
me I took to be other recc's and followed. The air was clear though our flight path had us looking directly into the sun
while we headed over the mud. My gunner is still seeing spots from staring at it too long trying to find huns.
Approached first target and was able to make out #9 also recc'ing target. We stayed within sight of each other and
photographed targets at anywhere from 1500 meters to 2k. Saw no EA the entire trip, headed west and grabbed some alt in
the meantime in case we had to make a run for it. Had a bit of a start when I looked up and saw two cons not too far
above us. Waved to 9 and pointed up, then kept a close watch to determine friend or foe. They were close enough to not
miss us and made no hostile moves, like diving on us and ripping my wings off, so I assumed they were allies. Continued
on to home aero and landed safely without having sighted a single enemy. 9 also landed safely. We each missed one target
on our route but the other had it covered. Between us we took pics of 7 targets. We discussed making another run but our
other available targets were not anywhere near where we assumed our escorts would be, and a bit too close to where the
huns might be so I shut it down and turned in my film for development.
