Fuches #4
Spad XIII, excellent condition, no scratches dents or extra mileage...do I get my deposit back?
Squad 27
0 enemy encountered, 2 trumpeter swans, 4 canadian geese, 3 seagulls, and
one cow(don't ask, I just write what I see!!!)
in for full duration
was in hun territory to give the flak gunners something to do.

Headed out with number 6 and flew south to cover our patrol. About half way into our first leg of the patrol 6 returned to base. I flew onwards hoping to encounter the elusive hun, but to no avail. I did spot some geese heading south for the riviera, there are now two less and we will be having goose for dinner. I finished the first patrol and headed back for base for fuel and to wash the goose blood out of the cockpit. Once there the cooks appreciated the treat, the CO didn't appreciate it too much(something about the cost of bullets).

I headed out on my second sortie and flew by allied #19, who by the way scared the crap out of me. One minute scanning nothing there, then the next, I have a plane diving in on me. Again I finished my flight and on the way home I decided to drop in on my cousins, the Fuches over drome 20. Ok explain to me again that it is hun territory, and I'll get someone to box your ears. I dropped Cousin Fuches a goose and headed back. He was really appreciative of the goose he kept waving his fist at me in the air. How was I to know it would land on his wife!!!!!!!!!!.....good catch though...

I headed home and landed safely, washed and waxed my plane. I will save the detailing until tomorrow..no sense in doing it now.

That is the final report of Verreuckter Fuches, I tried to serve my country well, now can I go home??...What??????? no!!!!!!!!!!!! Another war coming??????????....J**** C*****,,,,,will it ever end?????????....ok..sure sign me up...this time though...I want a drome with cold beer and warm women!!!!!!!!!!1...

S! was a pleasure and a great learning experience. I feel I am a better pilot for this....anyone seen the DC10??...I'm ready to fly it....

Sir,
eparted again from homebase and tried to re-establish contact with any friendly aircraft. Flew around between bases "6&8" for a while and heard air-raid sirens near base"8" but could not detect the enemy. Made brief contact with Allied plane near base "8" (forgot to jot down who it was) we lost sight of each other after a short time over Allied territory. After unsuccessfully trying to re-establish contact with Allied aircraft, I decided to go lone-wolf to base "14" As I approached that base, I observed two aircraft on or near the runway there. I swung my plane down and around that base to get a closer look. After seeing that nobody was coming after me, I thought that they were both enemy bombers, so I turned back and alligned for a straffing run. I was soon getting hit by enemy bullets so I decided to depart "post-haste", especially being over enemy territory. As I was heading west I noticed there were some friendlies also in the area. I turned back to assist them. Allied Pilots 11&14 were engaging enemy planes 1&17. Enemy plane #1 appeared injured and was trying to RTB so I took full advantage of that and was able to get a Headshot on him and shoot him down. My thanks to 11&17 for softening him up for me. I observed Allied #14 shoot down Enemy #17.

We then RTB to base "8". From there me and 14 headed back over enemy lines. I managed to straff some planes on the ground at bases "14 & 18" 2-3 enemies straffed on runway/ no kills made there.

I wound up being shot down by enemy ground gunners over base #18 due to my bloodlust to kill enemy pilot #6. (see more on enemy#6 below) It should be noted that while straffing enemy#6 on runway at base #14 he disappeared from the game ("6 has left the game" appeared on my screen. The same thing also occured at base #18, again while straffing him on that runway.)

Respectfully Submitted,
Sgt Samuel Colton,

Final Report from DaveAce #19 squad 76
Flew Hanriot HD1 plane in excellent condition
I also am well
In air aprox 1 1/2 hours
Damaged 2 bombers

Took off from home base at aprox 2100 hours Eastern, once airborne made contact with unknown craft, but due to the lack of sirens I assumed friendly. I proceeded to bridges, factories and towns to the northwest to make sure no hun were present. I then head south along the front to the target rich area of our central lines. Seeing several friendlies I saluted and proceeded west along the river to destroy any attempt at enemy infiltration behind our lines. After a mech, I took off to the same area I was and proceeded to cap. in the distance I began to hear sirens until I noticed flak and AA coming from a nearby drome. I sped to the scene to find 2 hun bombers beginning a run. I engaged one then another and then the other. They were #12 and 13. After firing many rounds into #13, he crash landed into the ground. I turned to engage #12 who was firing at me when I noticed I was out of ammo. I made some evasive manouvers as I sped toward a local airfield to their protective AA cover and hopefully to land and rearm. #12 disengaged and allied troops captured the downed pilot. The rest of the day was uneventful after re-arming, refueling and capping friendly airspace

Finally today was the day. My training period seemed to last forever and with the Americans entering the war we all felt the end was soon near and our enemies would be crushed. I felt I would never get my chance to take an aeroplane up in combat against those dreaded Austrians. The word floating around was that the Austrians had been severely beaten and at anytime they could break. At last though my orders came and my training was deemed complete. I was shipped to the front and joined the 76th. They had seen much action in the recent weeks and my CO promised I would see my share of it the very next day. He would accompany me on my first flight and I would fly his wing.

My CO Rowland briefed me on the mission and I felt honored he would entrust me to fly his wing. With his experience and keen vision I was sure to find an Austrian to quench my thirst for blood. Our job was to patrol targets in the C3 sector. The Austrian bombers had been giving the area a good pounding for several weeks now. The thought of them dropping their explosives on the good Italian people made my blood boil. I vowed I would get revenge for all those who could only cover their heads and cower in fear of the Austrian dogs.

As we got under way I couldn't believe the nimble little fighter I was assigned. She seemed to fit me perfectly as if the plane was merely an extension of myself. I wagged my wings gleefully as I fell into formation with Rowland and we began our mission.

To my very great surprise we immediately headed over the lines. I was shocked and admittedly somewhat afraid. I had heard of the terrors of the Austrian AA and Flak guns. I could recall the stories of the Austrian DIIIs that flew at altitudes that the Sun, the Moon, and the Stars could only dream of. I could feel my palms begin to sweat as they always did when I became nervous. I constantly scanned the skies around me, for every moment I feared an Austrian would drop down behind me and satisfy his own bloodlust.

Very quickly we came into view of an Austrian base. I could hear sirens blaring from below and that dreaded Flak began to develop around us. It seemed really harmless to me, despite the warnings I had been given. Simple puffs of smoke that appeared then faded away. Soon the thought of one actually hitting me became laughable. I thought what a stupid lot these Austrians were to waste their time in this pursuit. Rowland just then gave me the Follow signal and I dutifully signaled back and followed his lead. Looking back I saw the drome was empty and the only thing in the sky, other than us, was harmless Austrian flak. :)

Rowland took us back over our lines and we began to fly over some of our installations that were likely targets of the Austrian bombers. Looking below me I could see the beautiful Italian countryside. With the warm sun in my face and such a beautiful view below me it was difficult to believe I was up here prowling about looking to kill another human being. I only had to look closer to see bombed out buildings in the villages passing below me to shake me to reality.

Our Patrol took us north near a double railyard with a small village and bridge nearby. We passed over the area, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. We circled the area for a bit then headed to the south and east. Soon we came within sight of our drome #8. As we came into view of it sirens could be plainly heard. Those Austrian devils were about and close!

I scanned the skies around me, but could see nothing. Rowland evidently saw nothing either, but he seemed to get an idea and we once again headed for the double railyards. Rowland dived toward them to gain speed and I followed close behind, my heart pounding with excitement. When we reached the area all seemed very peaceful and we were forced to head back east and slowly climb to regain our lost altitude.

We passed near the drome #8 again, but now the sirens were silent. We had missed our Austrians and I was sorely disappointed. I was now beginning to wonder if I would ever see an Austrian or were we to cruise about the rear of our lines and sightsee for the rest of the war.

Rowland seemed to read my mind and soon we were crossing the lines once more and headed for the Austrian base. Nearly half over nml I got the signal I had been waiting for. Rowland signaled a sighting, but gave no other signal as to it's heading. My heart jumped into my throat and I wildly looked about me, just when I wondered if the poor CO's eyes were going bad I spotted them. Three white specks were traveling low over nml directly in front of me. From our altitude they almost looked like a small convoy of trucks and perhaps I would of mistaken them for such if they had not been directly over nml.

I had no idea what to do now. I looked to Rowland for a signal and soon it came. Follow was his command as he dove down for the first of the three. They had been traveling west when we spotted them and I thought it odd they would fly so low. I soon found out why as we dove in towards the first one. This plane had quickly left the other two behind him and as Rowland approached him the CO suddenly pulled off and turned his attention to the other two. I guessed it must of been a friendly plane, being chased by the Austrians, for Rowland to do this so I followed suit.

Now nearly over the two supposed Austrians I finally made out the colors of the planes and from my briefing easily identified them as the enemy. Rowland gave the signal to attack and I followed him in.

Very quickly I felt I was in over my head. As I turned about looking for the Austrians I could see none. I kept my plane in a sharp right turn and tried my best to look about me, but to no avail. I felt so very stupid and almost blind. I knew they were very near to me and I began hearing the hammering of machine guns, but still I could not see them. A horrible feeling it is to know the enemy is so near, but not be able to see them. I felt soon death would come to me and I would cost the life of Rowland as well with my blind stupidity.

Finally the Austrians decided to introduce themselves to me. I heard the tearing of cloth and looking behind me I could see the #1 Austrian. I turned hard to my left and my nimble little scout quickly came about onto the Austrian's tail. I began hammering away at him and all my fears and thoughts had left me now, all but one "Kill".

Every single muscle in my body tensed up and I unmercifully pounded my opponent with bullets. He seemed to have enough of it after I had followed him through several maneuvers and began to dive for his home. I stayed right on his tail and let go a burst whenever I could get him lined up. I felt sure I was to have my first victory and it was but a moment away. Just then I could hear bullets tearing through the rear of my plane. Very startled, I looked behind me to see the #17 two-seater on my tail.

My shock turned very quickly to anger, how dare the murderous Austrian bomber interfere! I quickly turned about on him and full of rage began filling him with lead. I could see the cloth of his wings begin to tear from the stream of bullets pouring from my guns. Finally I saw the pilot slump over. His plane flew on straight for a few seconds then winged over and smashed into the ground.

Jubilant, I looked around for Rowland and soon spotted him approaching me with the #6 Spad with him. They had just finished off the #1 Austrian plane. I quickly fell into formation with Rowland and the spad pilot joined in behind us. We made our way to drome 8 and congratulated each other on a very fine bit of hunting for the day.

Rowland was forced to stay there with a bad motor, but he gave me permission to patrol on my own if I wished. Brimming with confidence I readily accepted and took off for Austrian territory. I was very pleased that the American Spad pilot decided to accompany me. We flew back to the now familiar area around drome 14. While again the skies were filled with the Austrian flak, no sign of an Austrian plane could be found.

We flew a very long way to the north and east. I traveled just inside their lines and delighted in swerving back and forth through the flak bursts. I would only casually glance about me on occasion, just to check and see if a cowardly Austrian was trying to sneak onto my tail. Glancing at my clock, I knew time grew short to find ourselves another Austrian to play with.

I had heard that drome 18 in the D2 sector had been active recently. I headed for this area and as we got near to it I began to scan about me with more interest. I soon found the reports to be true as I spotted a plane flying low over the base and another parked on it. At first I thought the low plane to be a friendly, just getting done with a strafing run. I approached him cautiously, but I felt sure I would see a spad when I got close enough to identify him. To my great delight I saw it was another DIII, once I had closed ground on him. I quickly signaled my Spad friend to attack and he went quickly to work. I tried to ease down onto the Austrian's tail gently, fearful of damaging a wing if I made too violent of a maneuver to do so.

As the #6 Spad made his pass and began to pull off I was just getting ready to pounce. The Austrian seemed to become aware of me and began a hard turn to the left and climbed. I still had altitude advantage on him and with my nimble fighter I dove down onto his tail and began to turn with him. I quickly realized his better climbing machine would soon be above me, but for the moment I had him squarely in my sights. Determined to end the fight before it even really began, I opened up at close range and directed a stream of lead into the cockpit of the #11 DIII. The Pilot must of been killed instantly or at least hurt bad enough to lose control of the plane for it immediately went into a tight descending spiral for some 1000 meters until it impacted with the ground.

My Spad friend then went about causing havoc at drome 18. He strafed at least 2 planes on the field there and then directed me to follow him to the Austrian drome 17. Here we found another Austrian plane parked on the runway. I wished to tell him to let the poor devil into the air so we could kill him properly, but my American friend seemed to delight in braving the AA fire. #6 Dove in and began spraying the parked plane with lead. As soon as he had passed over it the Austrians quickly ran out and pushed the plane into a hanger before another pass could be made.

As I began thinking of how to celebrate my two victories yellow tracer fire over the drome caught my eye. Looking over I could see the American now flying high over the enemy drome, but still within easy range of the AA guns. He seemed to have every gun's attention. Just as I was thinking what a brave lad this American was his plane suddenly slipped to the left, turned over, and plunged headfirst into the field below. Stunned, I could only sit there and stare where the American Spad had been moments before. Evidently the Austrian AA guns had done their grisly work.

I took this as advice to myself not to press my own luck any further and decided to call it a day. I landed at an American base low on fuel, but very high in spirits. I reported the loss of their #6 Spad pilot and then refueled and headed for home. Already word at the American base was that the Austrians were beginning to pull out. On my way home I could see masses of Austrian soldiers packing the roads as they abandoned their trenches and fortifications. It appeared I had arrived at the front just in time to see the end.

Late start due to mechanical troubles. Did a solo loop north along the mud and over to Venice then back to the base. Saw neither friend nor foe despite my much improved "e"sight. Landed to refuel and experienced more mechanical troubles before calling it a day.
