Walking through the park I was set upon by a roving band of youthful Spads out "wilding."

Kugelfang

Sir,

It is my duty to report the findings from the autopsy of Feldwebel Kugelfang. Apparently the stress of spending time in the interior affected his mind. It is well known that there is unrest brewing in the Empire. Apparently Kugelfang, whose family has loyally served the Hapsburgs for generations, could not stand the strain and had become simply homicidal--overly eager to kill anything in the air. After his bizarre behavior and fatal crash an even more amazing fact was observed. Upon examining his brain I discovered that it had shrunk to the size of a walnut and was as smooth and hard as a brook washed pebble. It will make a wonderful addition to my collection.

Regards,

Doktor von Frankenstein

2042 at airdrome xxxx in an Alb D.III Waited an awful long time for someone to show up. Once Hein appeared we patrolled our sector. On the return leg we met up with Die Eule and Kugelfang. Die Eule ordered us to return to base xxxx, while Kugelfang put holes into my fuselage. I lost contact with Hein andhoped he will be alright.

On the way back I netted but returned to base xxxx at 2200 Once on the ground waited again for the longest time. Pendragon returned to the hanger. Die Eule keeping his cool by restricted my need to fly and then all of a sudden the sh_t hit the fan. I crawled to get altitude while Die Eule and Kugelfang fought EA close at hand. The last thing I remember was Spatz, (yes he came into the fray also) fighting four EA and doing remarkably well. I was wounded by EA xxxx and returned to base xxxx but crashed on landing. Lost consciousness.

Respectfully Yours,

Helmut Fangboner

Took off. Climbed up to about 2k. Saw 5 Spads. Saw no friendly scouts. Dove down and landed with a spad on my tail. Same old story

#1 Pendragon Report:
Albatross DIII Forced down (lost i guess)
Kills : (2 possible #15 + #14) 3 if you count AA on #4
Wounded

Basically flew my patrol, hear siren's around base xxxx...followed where AA was firing..but never founf anything...had mechanical trouble and flew back to home base.

After a minor tuning I took off and found an ally #13(Die Eule) and escorted him back to base, then I had mechanical trouble and landed next to him.

After having a conversation with him and Helmut, I told them what is the point of a patrol? Are we going to catch a two seater??? HOHOHO well I had a good laugh. From my point of view it was to hide from the enemy, last time I ventured but 5 miles from my aero and nearly got killed for my trouble. Well we were at a base the enemy likes to check on now and then for some easy kills so i said we shall sit here and chit chat till the sirens sound!

And that is what we did. After many minutes a Italian and a spad came tooling along and the sirens sounded I ordered Helmut to take off and defend our aero. Well I didn't even bother with the spad, never got one, never will So I engaged the Italian(#15). Well Helmut(our #6) helped me but was kept pretty busy with the spad. Of course it was taking forever for the fight to finish ever since high command loaded rubber bullets in our guns. Well Helmut met with a collision I saw he was missing landing gear then I notice 3 more planes join the fight...sigh I hardly cared the 2 I was already fighting were going to kill me anyway. Well I ignored the spads and calmly fired round after round in the Italians (14 and 15). Then I noticed 15 withdraw from the battle...well I new he was in trouble but could hardly finish him off so busy with 4 enemies.

I focused my attention on #14 and blew probably most of my ammo into him when I decided to screw off. I did the most amazing circle climb out of the fight I found my aeroplane could hold 50-60 degree angles of attack while turning and go basically straight up. At this point all planes abruptly RTB(I strong suspect enemy #15 caught fire and booted everyone).

I immediately took off after receiving TLC from my mechanic Inga(yes she is no longer a nurse). I climbed to 3000 meters and waited for the greedy allies to come back. Finally enemy #14 and Italian came along with his head toward the aero below, so I pounced him. I kept advantage the whole dangerous duel and finally had him running for home, none of my shots were from long range and when he started running I closed to very short range and fired and fired and fired. His criss crossing flying allowed me to get shots in the cockpit area but TO NO AVAIL. I emptied both drums into the Italian and he just kept on flying. Right disgusted, I turned to re-arm glad he at least didn't return the favor to me. (Later I found out from the pogos, he burst into flames over the front)

I rearmed and no sooner was it finished then i heard sirens again. I took off and face off against 3 spads whom dived on me from above. I got shots in one and after the initial pass I noticed one pancake into the ground(#4). Apparently some AA gunner got lucky and peg'd him. Good for that pogo...doing what no airman could...bring down a spad. So I fought the last two spads(5 and 9 i think) to a virtual standstill by using my AA gunners(they don't run out of bullets) to shoot at fleeing/returning spads. Really i was amazed at their patience, I was barley ever getting hit and I saw both of the them get thoroughly creamed by AA! I also got shots in..mostly to tag them in case AA got them and I could say I did the deed >:)

Well their patients paid off and eventually one of them got my oil leaking(they don't seem to have rubber bullets like us)... well I fought for a few more min but my life is worth way more than an aeroplane with rubber bullets. I landed while they shot at me apparently not satisfied my machine was ruined. I got out S! their patience and hoped there was no more planes left to fly the next day. I hope we win soon 'cause I’m no longer safe at an Austrian aerodrome.

Flew around by myself for awhile, then I found a flight nearby. I joined them and we flew to base xxxx so I could land and refuel. I saw Feldwebel Kuglefang shoot at (and hit) Helmut’s airplane.

The air raid sirens went off and we took off. After a few moments we spotted the ENM and I engaged him. It was a spad, and I hit him several time, I even think on one head to head pass I heard him grunt. After that pass the spad dropped low and out ran me. I noticed in the Pendragons report that he may have shot him down. If this is true I claim half point. I later returned to base, landed and exited the game.

Feldwebel Ahrens took of from F41j base this evening in one of our Phonix DII’s. I was surprised that the CO let this recruit fly one of the new planes, but I have noticed that the senior flyers are sticking with the Albatros DIII’s. Either they like those planes better, or they are feeling mercy for this fresh recruits facing both Americans and Italians in SPADs.

We have apparently lost another one of the Ahrens lads, since Die Eule and Helmut report last seeing him in hot pursuit of an American SPAD that had jumped there patrol. Ahrens was headed for the Italian lines at top speed. Odds are the SPAD could outrun him, but if he was sharp eyed, he could have tracked him back to his base.

It doesn’t really matter. Whatever happended, Ahrens has not reported in at any base in range and he must be listed MIA. Another fine young man and another decent aircraft gone. How much longer can we last? Parts, Pilots, Planes. One or the other will run out soon.

My report sir is a simple one. As I have just recently been released from the hospital I was too late to join the flight. I took off from our AF and immediately heard sirens as I climbed up from the field. I headed SE to try and gain some time and altitude before the NME could pounce on me. I then heard the report of our AA guns and at any moment thought that I would see them diving for me. I continued to climb to the SE and made a large circle to the N so that by the time I had reached 2K I was over AF (15). It was at this point that the engine started to give me trouble. It was firing eminently. I sat her down on the field. The mechanics came running out to see what the problem was. The engine was missing badly and I got out and went in for a drink while they worked on it. It took them quite a while to fix the D2 engine but they finally finished and I took off. By this time it was getting close to evening. As I climbed I headed N over our factories and RR yards, to my N most flight line point. From there I turned S again and headed back along the lines to my AF. I then landed as it was beginning to get dark and not knowing the ground very well yet decided to put her down.

S!
