Albatros C.V16
With the more powerful Mercedes in 1916, Albatros set about producing a successor to the C.III.
To accommodate the added length and weight of this powerplant a complete redesign of the CV '16 airframe.
Due to the increased weight, it was a cumbersome machine to fly, and the unbalanced controls required no
little effort from its pilots. The engine lacked the reliability of its 160 hp. predecessor and the extra
length of the crankshaft dictated by the additional two cylinders, rendered this component extremely vulnerable
to failure. After no more than 424 examples, production of the engine was discontinued.
